Final Thoughts and the Final Film | White Christmas | Film No. 60

The review of the LAST FILM IN MY COLLECTION!!!! is below… Before jumping into the review, I have a few thoughts from this challenge. In a little under 4 months, I watched all 60 movies that I own. My goal was to actually watch the films that I own and figure out if there were any films that I didn’t want anymore. Currently, the only film that has found itself on the chopping block is Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels, the first film by Guy Richie. In terms of things I discovered about my collection, I realized that I: 1. love a film with Liev Schreiber in it (or directed by him) and 2. generally feel more motivated about watching action films over every other kind of film. Anyways, all of my reflections aside, the gif below is how I am feeling about being able to get back to watching TV shows.

White Christmas is a classic winter film about two show army “pals” who decide to help out their old general who has come upon hard times. There are also some sisters involved. This musical is only christmassy for about 3 minutes at the end. The rest of the film is like any other musical from the 50s.

One observation that I made while watching this film again is that the set of White Christmas is VERY similar to the set from Summer Stock. In addition to the set, the plot is also very similar to the 1950 hit with Gene Kelly and Judy Garland which involves a show getting moved into the country and performing in a barn. In both films, there are full dress rehearsals for the impending shows that only serve to break up the plot. One caveat to my rant: Summer Stock is more of a straightforward comedy while White Christmas is slightly more dramatic and focused on story telling. Obviously, with Danny Kaye in White Christmas, it is funny, but far less scripted.

White Christmas is an American classic full of incredible choreography and songs. Some of the most memorable Christmas songs are found in this film. Obviously, the Sisters number is a classic and if you have sisters but cannot do this WHOLE number, do you even have sisters? Also, Rosemary Clooney singing “Love (you didn’t do right by me)” is a mood and always goals for me. She is queen!

Genuinely, this was the best film to finish this challenge on. White Christmas is such a sweet story and the dances get me every time. I am 100% thrilled with this film, but also excited to get another TV series under my belt. A review of the Marvelous Mrs. Maisel in coming up in the next week.
