Walk The Line | Film No. 59

Disclaimer: Because this film has music in it, I classed it as a musical. However, I am aware that it is merely a film with music in it, because the characters are aware that they are singing. This is contrasted with a true musical where the characters are not aware that they are singing and sing to communicate to each other or show their internal thoughts.

I have been obsessed with Johnny Cash for over 15 years. His songs are true classics and stand the test of time. They are meaningful while being interesting. However, when this film came out, I saw it and was a bit sad. I never knew that his life was as tumultuous as it was. And this film did not cast Cash in a particularly flattering light. He struggled with addiction much of his life and could not seem to get out of his own way, often messing up good things when he had them. The music is dope though! #alwayslookonthebrightsideoflife

This film is so well executed that it hurts. The set design is perfect despite spanning over 30 years of time and stays true to each period. In addition to the set design, I appreciated the attention to detail in the mens clothes in particular. Many times, the mens clothing in films is very plain, where this film has incredible details put into each piece of clothing. Embroidery on every collar, perfect sunglasses, this film has men’s fashion on LOCK! Clearly living for the details, as always. If Johnny Cash is your jam, this film is SUPER worth it!

This post is part of my year end challenge to watch every movie that I own.  If you want to see the original post with a full list of all of the films.  Click here.
